At VVOB, we are deeply saddened to learn of the death of His Excellency, former President and Nobel Peace Prize Winner, Nelson Mandela.
President Mandela was a great South African, a leader who led his country to democracy and its people, of all races and creeds, to freedom. His vision that all South Africans could enjoy a shared future and his example of tolerance, forgiveness and dignity has been an inspiration to the whole world. He will be remembered as a great statesman, as a visionary and man of peace.
His commitment to quality education and to a world where all children have the opportunity to pursue their dreams, was demonstrated by the founding of the Nelson Mandela Institute for Education and Rural Development in 2007.
Nelson Mandela has been and remains an inspiration for VVOB’s strife for equity in education in South Africa and around the world.
We wish to express our sincere condolences and deepest sympathy to Mr. Mandela’s family, to the South African Government and to the people of South Africa.
