On 6, 7 and 8 December 2016 all staff members of the Free State District Teacher Development Centres (DTDCs) as well as the provincial officials supporting the DTDCs met to plan activities for 2017-2018 in line with mandate documents and national, provincial and district priorities. The units drafted operational plan activities, that were presented during plenary sessions and comments and additions were added to the final plan.
As part of its support to teacher development in general and DTDCs’ capacity development in particular, VVOB supported this planning process. This is in line with several of our previous capacity development activities: for DTDC Managers and their supervisors (the CES: Education, Management and Support) to better coordinate, implement and monitor all district teacher development initiatives; for DTDC officials on PLC facilitation, support and monitoring skills as well as on research skills.
This seemed like an ideal opportunity to jointly reflect on the support programme 2014-2016: participants listed lessons learned during capacity development collected evidence of change and achievements. This exercise will help VVOB to tailor further support to teacher development in its new programme 2017 - 2021.
